Our History

Hogan Blue Metal
Hogan White Metal

Since our founding, we have followed our guiding vision of being a reliable partner to customers needing transportation services. From Joseph Hogan helping customers with his single truck in 1918 to our network of professional drivers across North America today, our history reflects a company that customers have relied on for over a century to meet their needs.

1918

Hogan was founded by Joseph Hogan in St. Louis as a small, local cartage business to serve the needs of St. Louis’ business community. He was one man with one truck, but Joseph’s customers grew accustomed to excellent service, and word quickly spread that Hogan was a committed, loyal business partner.

1950s

Carl Hogan Sr. joined his father in the family business and successfully led the company from the early ‘50s through the mid-’80s.

During that time, Hogan’s services expanded to meet their customers’ growing transportation needs. The U.S. interstate highway system evolved, making trucking a viable, economical mode of shipping. And new customers — responding to positive, word-of-mouth referrals — partnered with Hogan to ensure the safe, reliable delivery of their products.

Under Carl’s leadership, Hogan grew from a small, local cartage company to a full-service, regional transportation provider.

1970s

The company continued to grow successfully.

Carl Hogan had a tremendous passion for Indy Racing. He enjoyed success with his racing team, winning numerous races and championships with drivers such as Johnny Rutherford, Bobby Rahal, Dario Franchitti and Helio Castroneves.

1980s

Carl’s three sons Carl Jr., David and Brian took over the day-to-day operations of the business in the mid-’80s. Each worked closely together, learning the business and adopting the core values of the Hogan service tradition. The Hogan brothers now lead a full-service, multifaceted transportation company operating throughout North America.

In 2014, the company marked a major milestone with the opening of a new corporate headquarters in Maryland Heights, MO, positioning itself for further growth and success.
